Because of recent financial difficulties with the general fund for Wesleyan
World Missions the national church funds as of December 2002 will no longer
be a budgeted item that we receive each month. This money now has to be
raised in the form of shares, one share equals $500 a year. For Brazil this
means that we need to raise 51 shares or a little over $2,000 each month
to sustain the existing programs such as the Bible College, TEE and church
planting efforts.
Our Bible College and TEE programs require assistance from outside because the costs far outweigh the price our students could afford. Planting churches and new districts throughout Brazil has its cost as well. For example, the Grande Vitória church plant receives a modest help (less than $100 US) for a temporary period of 2-3 years to get going.
This is a big change in how our funds are raised. It used to be that the missionaries raised the national church funds and the administrative costs were paid for by the general fund. With the diminishing income in the general fund WWM headquarters was forced to adopt some changes to cover the growing deficit. Under the new plan a part of the money raised by the missionaries will go to cover the administrative costs, while the national church funds will be raised separately using shares.
This is also a big opportunity for you to support directly the Lord’s work in Brazil. This money or these shares go straight to Brazil to help and employ national workers in the field. To continue receiving these funds in December we need to have people committed to giving the number of shares that we need. One can pay for a share all at once or in monthly installments of $42.
We want to thank you for your prayers and support for what the Lord is doing in Brazil. As the Lord’s blessings are eternal so is our gratefulness to you for lifting us up before Him.
